Information

Date: Monday 21 October

Time: 1:45pm - 3:30pm

Location: Shalford Upper Village Hall

Our speaker is David Henderson, a retired pilot.

David Henderson has spoken to us before on Air Traffic Control and was so well received that we’ve invited him back. David is an international airline captain with more than 22,000 hours in the air; hundreds of hours of boredom punctuated by moments of stark terror. He trained in the RAF and subsequently worked for ‘The World’s Favourite’ and latterly for major Middle East and Far East airlines. He has flown almost every type of flying machine from paragliders to aerobatic and vintage aeroplanes to Boeing 747s. David also has a Master’s degree in modern languages.

His talks, which are researched meticulously from a vast memory bank of fact, anecdote and downright lies, to ensure the correct material for each individual audience, are a mixture of entertainment, information and behind the scenes knowledge.

He is one of the men to whom you may have unwittingly entrusted your lives, and the very fact that both you, and he, are here this afternoon is sure proof that he got things right for most of the time. He will talk to us about Air Accident Investigation, and knowing his style we’ll learn a lot, but manage to have some lighter moments despite the severity of the subject.

Come at 1.45pm for a 2.00pm start, entry £2 on the door includes tea and biscuits afterwards. All are welcome, WI members, partners and friends. Please register your interest to book a place by emailing: hello@3science.org.uk.No prior science knowledge is necessary to enjoy these talks.
