Our monthly magazine is one of the main vehicles for informing members about what is happening in the Federation, coming events and what other WIs are doing.

The first edition of Surrey WI News was produced in 1947 as a simple single fold newsletter. It was increased to an eight-page black and white magazine in 1983 and latterly a full colour magazine.  Since January 2024 the Surrey WI News is emailed to all members in a digital format, available in print on request.

In addition to messages from the Federation Chairman and Secretary and news from Federation committees, the magazine has an easy-reference diary of events, and includes full details of cookery and craft workshops, lunches, outings, quizzes, entertainments, Denman online, and Federation meetings at Dorking Halls. It also includes write-ups of events, special interest group meetings and training workshops to give members an idea of what they might have missed, plus campaign news and articles of general interest to WI members.  You can contact our SWIN Editor at surreywinews@surreyfedwi.org.uk

It is very much a magazine for members by members and welcomes contributions about WIs or members who have done or achieved something special. Short reports of individual WI meetings are useful for other WIs to learn and gain inspiration from, giving them hints on which speakers to book – and which to avoid! A bit of humour is usually added to the mix and there may also be the occasional thought-provoking article or comment from readers.

To celebrate the Federation’s centenary in 2018 we added an eight-page supplement to the November edition with a foreword by HRH The Countess of Wessex, GCVO, who is a member of Bagshot WI.

Since January 2019 members have had the chance to read each month’s edition – and an archive of back copies – on the web via the MyWI section of the National Federation’s website which is accessible to WI members only. The magazine can also be accessed from this page via the links at the top.
