The elegant surroundings of Glenmore House Surbiton will once again be the venue for this year’s much anticipated literary lunch.

Cecily Blench grew up in Herefordshire and studied English Literature at the University of York.  She worked for an independent publisher before her debut novel The Long Journey Home  won the Wilber Smith Adventure Writing Prize leading to its publication in 2021.  She now lives in Bristol and is a freelance writer and editor with a particular interest in travel writing, wartime history, intrepid women and Southeast Asia.

Cecily Blench’s grandmother didn’t think her stories of being a nurse in wartime Burma and India were unusual, but her granddaughter found them memorable.  And when Cecily read her grandma’s 1944 diary, she found more inspiration to begin her first novel, the prizewinning The Long Journey Home,  which was published on 10 June 2021.

Cecily second novel was published in February 2024, Secrets of Malta.  It is full of suspense, courage and love.  Secrets of Malta is a stunningly written story about two extraordinary women, a world at war and a race against time.  We look forward to welcoming her to this year’s Literary Lunch event.

Glenmore House is a 5-minute walk from Surbiton railway Station and has plenty of accessible parking.

At Glenmore you will have a two-course lunch and access to the bar.

The cost of the lunch is £39.00 – please state your dietary requirements at the point of booking.
