The elegant surroundings of Glenmore House in The Crescent, Surbiton, will be the venue for our next, much anticipated, literary lunch.

Gill Thompson began her working life as a teacher and has spent nearly forty years at the chalk face. More recently she has also become an author, gaining an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Chichester. Gill’s debut novel The Oceans Between Us, about a mother and son separated by war and by continents, was published by Headline in March 2019 and The Child on Platform One, about a little girl on the Kindertransport, came out in December 2019. Both books were digital number one bestsellers and The Child on Platform One was a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller. It has been translated into nine European languages. Her new novel, The Lighthouse Sisters, about a wartime family on the Channel Islands in Jersey, came out on 4th February.

Gill will tell you about her publishing journey, and the background stories to her novels. She will illustrate her talks with a PowerPoint presentation.

The cost is £37 per head for an excellent lunch in convivial company while learning from a published author.

1. Applications for tickets before the closing date cannot be guaranteed. Applications for tickets after the closing date may not be accepted. The office will email a confirmation that your application has been received.
2. If the event is oversubscribed at the closing date, then a ballot for tickets will take place and the applicant will be advised of the outcome.
3. PLEASE NOTE – It is the responsibility of the applicant to maintain a list of names of all those on whose behalf they are ordering tickets.
4. REMEMBER – Tickets may only be ordered if the applicant has paid the WI for them. WI funds cannot be used to cover the cost of tickets not required.
5. CANCELLATION – Tickets may be cancelled before the event closing date without charge, otherwise all tickets have to be paid for.
6. All tickets ordered online along with any other instructions and an invoice will be sent to the WI Treasurer for distribution after the closing date.
7. Non-members, where applicable, may order tickets by printing this completed form and sending it to the Federation HQ together with a cheque payable to ‘SFWI’ for the full amount of tickets ordered and a self-addressed envelope for the return of tickets and instructions. Individuals may also apply in this way.
8. REMINDER – Members are reminded that they take part in all events at their own risk.
