Do you need help and advice for entering competitions?
Perhaps you feel there’s no point in entering competitions because others are better than you!
Do you wonder why you didn’t score higher in competitions?
Would you like to find out what judges are looking for when they “find the winner”?
We are offering members two half day sessions to assist, guide and encourage you to enter items in SFWI competitions. The day will be broken in to four sessions; am: cookery and preserves and pm: crafts and essay writing. Members may apply to do either the morning session or afternoon session, or both. Participants will be given a photocopy of “On with the Show” and the tutors (including a couple of trained judges) will talk you through how to gain marks in competitions. You will also have the opportunity to “judge” items.
The sessions will focus on the 2022 “Eileen Bowler Competition”, which includes two items for next year; write a reflective essay entitled ‘Queen for a Day’, to coincide with the Platinum Jubilee of HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne and/or “Design a Card from SFWI to Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee”. It will also focus on the competitions to be included at the 2022 Surrey County Show. These include a Victoria Sandwich, a bottle of cordial, a knitted item, a crocheted item, a dough model, an item of jewellery, an item for a baby and two or more dressed peg dolls.
Details of these competitions can be found on the SFWI website here.
There is also a link to the booklet “On with the Show” which contains all you need to know when entering competitions.
Tea and coffee will be available but you will need to bring a packed lunch if you are attending both sessions.
Places are limited to 10 members in the morning and 10 in the afternoon.
This booking is for the afternoon event only. Please book the morning event separately!
The cost is £5 per session, £10 for both sessions.
