Would you like to make your own bread?

MOST of us buy and eat bread daily — but wouldn’t you like to make your own? It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner, want to refresh your skills or just want to join other WI members and learn. We are happy to have you join us.

Bread is easy to make, more cost effective than buying and you can make it to suit your taste buds by adding nuts, fruit and grains, for example.

Tutor Hazel Will and the Surrey WI Cookery Team are holding a Make and Bake Bread session on Saturday, 19 October 19 from 9.00am to 1.00pm at Ark Putney Academy, Pullman Gardens, London SW15 3DG.

The session will cover many practical issues, such as the buying and weighing of ingredients, decoration and how to adapt recipes.

You will explore all those little things that make bread making challenging. You will be making a basic white loaf, fancy shaped rolls, a flatbread and Chelsea buns with dried fruit. You will start work as soon as you arrive and while the doughs are proving we will have a refreshment break and then cook everything.

We will provide ALL the ingredients and recipes, but please let us know when booking if you have allergies or dietary requirements. The school’s classroom kitchen is not a ‘free-from’ kitchen so some allergies cannot be catered for.

The cost is £27.50. Please bring with you an apron, two tea towels, a mug (tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided) and containers to take your cooking home. Cloth bags are good, especially if the bread has not fully cooled.

The closing date is 9 October.
